Preventing pimples the Himalaya Herbals way

Guess I’m going to have a long affair with Himalaya Herbals!

I’ve never had any real skin concerns but dry skin, which I was born with, but using heavy moisturiser always helped. However since past few months the blessing of trouble free skin was taken away from me. Which reminds me of joke we used to make in school whenever any girl had pimples, “Sins of past life are bursting on your face” :-D. Now I really had to do something quick to hide the sins of my past ;-).

Before you read on hoping to discover some miracle pimple relief product, know that nothing can stop pimples from appearing if they are to appear, however you can always prevent them from increasing in number and rotting and popping.

The first change I made in my routine was to completely let go of face scrub, cause you do not want to irritate pimple covered skin, so the first rule is ‘Be gentle on your face’.

The next was to change my face wash (I had been using Za true white face wash for 5-6 months) to a gentle soap free face wash, luckily had Himalaya’s Purifying Neem Face Wash available in house(husband’s :-P), which made a quick different in appearance of new pimples; they reduced in numbers, it did not make my skin very dry and since pimples were not increasing at the same rate, I continued to use it twice daily.

HH-1Don’t you wish all the cleansing products came in pump up dispenser bottles?

Although it was preventing new pimples to occur, my old ones stayed and a few new ones kept popping along. This is where I made the third change into my pimple prevention regime, I bought home Himalaya’s Purifying Neem Pack and started using it three times a week. Now I wrote in the start that you won’t find any miracle product in this post, but this is the best face pack I’ve ever come across; totally does what it claims, prevent the recurrence of pimples and additionally made old pimple fade away in just two week of using! Although it says for normal to oily skin, it did not make my skin very dry and after every use my face started looking cleaner and cleaner.

Now here are the three simple tips from me which I learnt while fighting the battle of pimples:

1. Be gentle, stop using harsh products, totally dump face scrubs till skin is pimple free
2. Use a gentle soap free face wash; I cannot think of anything other than Himalaya’s Purifying Neem Face Wash
3. Use pimple preventing face pack at least twice a week; cannot recommend anything better than Himalaya’s Purifying Neem Pack

Now that my pimples are slowly fading I’m going to restart my scrub a week routine, greedily eyeing Himalaya’s Purifying Neem Scrub!

Note: I do not suffer from pimples all the time so the tips mentioned in this past may not work for permanent pimple suffering, sorry!

Himalaya Herbals: Revitalizing Night Cream and Clear Complexion Whitening Day Cream

Hello, it’s me. I was wondering if after all these months you’d like to meet…

This song at the moment sound perfect as I return to dear blog after so many months, so late but not too late(I hope).

And without wasting much time in wondering lets get straight to the good things I have to talk about Himalaya Herbals Revitalizing Night Cream and a few things about Himalaya Herbals Clear Complexion Whitening Day Cream.

Current skin concerns: Dry, pimples and a bit of patchy

Last few months I’ve ignored the skin care, so when the results started showing in form of pimples on face I had to do something. I started using Himalaya’s Purifying Neem Face Wash which is known for preventing pimples, pimples reduced but it made my dry skin very dry. So I needed some moisturisers at night, this is when I first got Himalaya Herbals Revitalizing Night Cream, which from the first night( 😉 ) made a big impression.

Himalaya Herbals Revitalizing Night Cream doesn’t make big claims, it would Renews skin cells, Hydrates skin, Repairs daily damage; simple daily skin needs, which is what I was looking for. Cream is very light, very moisturising and doesn’t make skin oily, smells of flowers but not too strong(wish Himalaya made scent free products). Very little amount is required to cover full face, and I wake up with soft skin in morning. For my extra dry skin this night cream worked so well that I used it in day also(I hope it is not illegal to use night cream in day :P), as it was working so well I thought let’s try the day cream from same range.

Himalaya’s Clear Complexion Whitening Day Cream which claims to Hydrates skin, Lightens skin tone, Clears complexion; now I’m only interested in ‘Hydrates skin’ part cause we all know nothing can change the color of your skin :D. I’ve been using it for a week, can really say that day cream is not as awesome as night cream. Again very little amount of cream is needed to work full face, to me it smells a bit of fuller’s earth and looks also of same colour(though it is not present as per ingredients list). The only issue with day cream is when I go out my face starts to sweat and looks oily, which makes it good only for indoor and winters. Oh the day cream also has UV protection, no no not SPF but breakthrough herbal sunblock CINNABLOC™, can’t say if this really works against sun.

Himalaya Herbals Revitalizing Night Cream costs 200 Rs. for 50 grms and Clear Complexion Whitening Day Cream 250 Rs. for 50 grms and are easily available at stores and online. Added advantage, both creams are alcohol and parabens free, also did you Himalaya Herbals is cruelty free, yay!

Have you tried any of the face creams from Himalaya Herbals, which is your favorite?

Vaseline lip therapy: Rosy lips and Cocoa butter

Hello everybody!

I wanted to share with you guys the cute little Vaseline Lip Therapy tins, aren’t they cute? A ‘Rosy Lips’ and ‘Cocoa Butter’ petroleum jelly!

Every time I would go to grocery shopping and eyed them(like 90s Indian villains, lol), one day finally I picked two little tin tubs.

A different pose…

Do they work? They are not lip-balms, so I wasn’t expecting any protection or softness to lips. Rosy Lips has very little pink tint, which doesn’t show on my lips, it smells like roses but artificial. But hey, the tin is pink! 😛

Cocoa Butter does make lips a little moisturized as compared to Rosy lips, but again not much heavy on protection from chapped lips. This smells like real cocoa, amazing!(Same smell as that of ‘Vaseline Total Moisture Cocoa Glow Lotion‘).

It was really hot in Bangalore last week(38 °C,sigh!) which made them little runny, guess they are not meant for hotter climate, I had to store them in fridge. Is that the reason they are not sold in India? In here we have Vaseline lip-therapy in twist up lip-stick like packaging, which I haven’t tried so cannot compare, sorry.

When it comes to saving lips from dryness, cocoa butter is best amongst two. Oh, it says same on side on tin; ‘Soothes dry skin and lips‘, hmm means good for dry lips. While Rosy lips just says, tint and cares, not much huh?

vaseline-lip-therapy-7I think I bought them for £1 each (~93 INR), but they are sold at different rates depending upon which store you buy them from.

Have you tried any products from Vaseline lip therapy line?

Khadi natural: Chocolate soap and Kiwi Soap with Loofah

Hello, let me quickly walk you through the land of natural skin care soaps from Khadi natural.

I bought three soaps from Khadi along with Shampoos from their website. I wanted two but since chocolate soap only comes in pack of two I ended up with three soaps; two chocolate soaps and one kiwi loofah soap. Since two months I’ve been using Khadi natural soaps, first month was chocolate soap and in the next month I started with Kiwi loofah soap.

First impressions; flimsy packaging, expensive, weak fragrance. When I opened the package the shikakai shampoo fragrance from was so overpowering, to my disappointment the soaps have very weak fragrance.

Chocolate soap smells less like chocolate more like coconut, even when the ingredients don’t have any mention of coconut. Fragrance will be gone as soon as one steps out of shower. It foams decently and leaves skin dry.

The loofah soap will sure catch attentions, it is two-in-one product for innovations sake. It works for quick exfoliation but you can’t use it daily, remember over exfoliation is never good, twice a week is more than enough. Over exfoliation ages your skin so careful how often you exfoliate.

Kiwi soap claims to be SLS and paraben free (God only know what else goes into the soap, as we can see only key ingredients). Fragrance is very light and doesn’t last. You will end up using a lot of soap while exfoliating as loofah will come out of soap only after a few usage. The loofah is natural, I think it is plant dried gourd ?

There are very few things to like about Khadi natural, and more to dislike:

  •  Khadi has natural tag but a lot of chemicals go into their products, not 100% natural
  •  Ingredients list is not complete on any product, only key ingredients are mentioned
  • Very weak and ambiguous fragrance
  • Soaps have to be stored with care, they will become leaky if left in wet place after use
  • Minimum order value is 500 Rs for free shipping from Khadi naturals site. But Khadi products are available on almost all other online shopping sites

Chocolate soap Rs 130 for set of two.
Kiwi loofah soap Rs 115 for single unit.

Have you used Khadi soaps, which natural/herbal soaps do you recommend?

Khadi Herbal SLS & Paraben Free – Amla & Bhringraj Shampoo,Green Tea & Aloevera Conditioner

Hi guys, this is going to be a quick post about my experience with Khadi Herbal hair products. This is my first experience with Khadi products, the SLS and paraben free tag is what tempted me to try it. Note that not all Khadi products are 100% herbal, they are loaded with lots of chemicals.

My biggest hair concerns are dry hair and split ends, hair fall is there too but not priority for now. We all know what causes split ends, in my attempt to reduce chemical exposure to hair I picked up Khadi Herbal Amla & Bhringraj Shampoo. It claims ‘The extracts of Amla, Reetha, Bhringraj, Haritaki, Henna and Neem contained in this shampoo makes the hair lustrous, healthy and manageable.‘ And Khadi Herbal Green Tea & Aloevera Hair Conditioner the description for this on website is incomplete, mainly I picked this for dry hair tag.

I’ve been using this pair for one month, conditioner is already over while quarter bottle of shampoo is still left . Khadi Herbal Amla & Bhringraj Shampoo is purple in color and smells like herbs, it leathers well (though there is no SLS, I wonder what other sulphate goes in), small quantity is enough for cleansing. It makes hair too dry, conditioner must follow after shampoo. I do not see any benefit for using this shampoo, especially if you have dry hair; hair doesn’t shine, they are not manageable after shampoo due to dryness, and they sure did not get any healthy.

Khadi Herbal Amla & Bhringraj Shampoo

Khadi Herbal Green Tea & Aloevera Hair Conditioner doesn’t have intense smell, shampoo smell overpowers even after conditioning. A lot of product is required to decently cover hair with conditioner, which is the reason my shampoo is still left while conditioner was over. Even after applying a lot of conditioner the dryness caused by Khadi Herbal Amla & Bhringraj Shampoo doesn’t go. Hair feel dry and frizzy as if no conditioner was used. Maybe cause the shampoo makes hair too dry, the ‘for dry hair’ tag on is conditioner is totally misleading as it doesn’t give hair any moisture back.

The ingredients list is incomplete as one can see on back of bottle only key ingredients are listed. The packaging is another turn down, but if the products would have worked well this has not mattered.

Khadi Herbal Green Tea & Aloevera Hair Conditioner

I ordered my products from, the site has been recently revamped the older version of site even had malware(thanks to my anti-virus). The price is a bit on higher side, and free shipping is only available on orders above Rs. 500. SLS and pareben free hair products are priced at Rs. 210, you can get the same product at cheaper price of Rs. 115 added with SLS and paraben 😉

I will not dare to use Khadi Herbal Amla & Bhringraj Shampoo and Green Tea & Aloevera Conditioner ever again and warn anyone with dry hair to stay away from these. Although in my attempt to stay away from chemicals Khadi is the best I can get in India, hence I am going to order Khadi Herbal Henaa Tulsi extra conditioning Shampoo and Khadi Shikakai & honey Hair Conditioner of-course the SLS & Paraben Free versions 😉

Have you tried any Khadi products, how is your experience with them? What SLS free products would you recommend for dry hair (available in India).

Here a couple of more products from Khadi, can you guess the names? Watch out for my experience with them in another post!

How TRESemme Split Remedy wont hurt split ends even in three months

TRESemme Split Remedy-0

My hair are ridiculously long, and some people find it fascinating. This without considering the troubles of managing them and to carry a boring to death hair style all the time. ‘I’m lucky for such long hair’ is beyond my understanding. Why go to all this trouble and not chop them short then? There are other factors in life which force me to carry this burden on my head(now I wonder my hair alone may weight 1/2 to 1 kg) like my mother and husband and the new and more prominent is mother-in-law. But anyways since I have to live with it, I try to take care and let them be good looking.

One of the many troubles is split ends, ugly. God only knows what all I’ve gone thru to get rid of them(including trimming every 4-5 months), but nothing has worked and after this latest shampoo experiment I’m convinced that I would have to live and die with them.

TRESemme Split Remedy-1

When I watched the TV advertisement of TRESemme in which Dian’s hair become utterly beautiful under the work of magic potion split remedy shampoo, I did not waste any time in reasoning and picked shampoo-conditioner from the grocery store. One month went away in which I religiously washed my hair from roots to tips and conditioning but nothing happened. I went ahead and bought another pair of shampoo-conditioner and continued my blind faith but the stubborn split ends did not give up. Then I received another pair as a sample from brand and I continued on my path with hopes that the split ends will join themselves in the end. I was desperate and wanted this potion to work in any way, then one day reality stuck and I came out of the illusion , this is not the something which will take hair out of split-ends cage.

For me TRESemme Split Remedy did nothing to split-ends and they continued to prosper with their pace. If you just want to use some shampoo for daily cleaning I would say there are much better things in the world.

PS – I’m going herbal for hair cleansing and we will see how it works.

Fruttini Milky Orange Shower Gel

A very warm Hello from super hot Bangalore, and apologies for being away for so too long. Something you should know about me, I so not like summers, I would like to believe many Indians do not like summers(all ya sweaty, forever tanned Indians raise your hand?).

I like fruit scents in bath products, for which I  got this orange flavor or fragrant shower cream from Fruttini, and yes this brand is now available in India! Do check out their website for large selection of body care products, mostly fruity.

Milky Orange Shower Gel

This shower gel seems full of pulpy oranges and smells mild citricy and more sweet. The scent is not too strong and stays throughout the day. Next the big question, is it good for super dry skin? From my experience it works ok for a shower gel, and I feel the need to apply body lotion even in summers(well that is the blessing of super dry skin like mine). What actually goes into this shower gel, well this is what their website says about the ingredients:

Aqua (Water) • Sodium Laureth Sulfate • Glyceryl Oleate • Coco-Glucoside • Cocamidopropyl Betaine • Sodium Chloride • Parfum (Fragrance) • Glycol Distearate • Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate • Phenoxyethanol • Citric Acid • Benzyl Alcohol • Limonene • Niacinamide • Potassium Sorbate • Panthenol • Laureth-4 • Linalool • Isopropyl Alcohol • Denatonium Benzoate • Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Extract • Ci 15985 (Yellow 6) • Tocopherol.

(The list is same as mentioned on my bottle, I matched each and every ingredient as the one which I have is bought from Germany)

Milky Orange Shower Gel

Now the interesting part, notice the design of bottle, found something? Yes, the cap can be flipped and turned into a hook, which you can hang in your bathroom and turn it into easy shower gel dispenser!

Milky Orange Shower Gel

I’ve also used Cranberry Choc Shower Cream from Fruttini, if you love chocolate fragrance in your bath try it, I bet if you can resists eating it 😛

I totally forgot about how much I bought it for, Fruttini range is available on almost all online stores, and shower gels are priced ~Rs 500.

Quiz time, what fragrance you like in your bath flowers or fruits?
